I’ve always wanted to drive up Sani Pass into Lesotho. Even before we got ‘Wimpy Hightop’ (our old 1963 Series II Land Rover). The weather man told us that a massive cold-front was on it’s way and extreeeem conditions were expected in the Drakensberg and Lesotho areas, with snowfall predicted too! All this forecast for my birthday weekend! It was a sign!
Some last minute arrangments and we were off with lots of warm cloths and our cameras…
I have never seen falling snow, so when the first flakes hit the wind screen as we reached the top of the pass, I was ecstatic!!! Best birthday present ever!
That night the temperature dropped to -15 deg C !!!! The wind pumped so heard that the snow fell horizontally! The water in Wimpy’s radiator froze so I had to do some bush-mechanic repairs to the cracked water pump… What an awesome weekend!
